Are You An Opportunity - Hopper?
Opportunity - hopper?
Wait, what's that?
Well, it's good that you asked!
But instead of just giving
you the answer right away, I would describe a scenario to you and then you can
infer from there what the true and full meaning of opportunity-hopper is
Right or right?
Alright
I had a friend, let's call him Maluu (not real name though)
Maluu was a graduate of Business Management from a 1st Generation University, he used to say that he had the eye for a business opportunity and that he can smell a good business from a very long distance.
So, some years back, one of the Multilevel Marketing Companies came to Nigeria and Maluu was quick to join them because he described the Company's Compensation Plan as "out of this world", after a few months, he told me about it and I also joined. Since I was engaged full time as a Medical Doctor, I actually worked on that business on part-time basis but Maluu was into it full time. He toured the Country, holding seminars left right and centre, bringing in people into the business and cashing out tons of money in bonuses.
When I took my annual
leave in that year, I also decided to spend the 6 weeks conducting seminars
across the length and breadth of the Country. I started building my business
but by that time my friend had gone far ahead in the rankings but yet to hit
the target earning. But within that year, another MLM Company arrived Nigeria
and Maluu was one of the first leaders to be contacted. After taking a look at their
Compensation Plan, he decided to jump ship, abandoning the first one he
introduced me to and joining the new comer to start all over again. This was
just one year of doing business with the former MLM Company.
When he told me of the newest opportunity in town and which he used the word "baddest" to describe its Compensation Plan, I asked him if he was done with the first Company and he said he was no longer deriving pleasure discussing it because he was not getting the returns he expected for his efforts. I told him to move on and that I was staying put in that business to build it over at least 5 years and see what I can make out of it - he shouted and said 5 years was too long to stay at one business.
Maluu went on with the second MLM Company for almost another year when the "mother of all MLM Companies" as he described the third one that arrived our shores came in and again he had to jump ship to be one of the first joiners of the newly arrived MLM Company.
And as usual he approached me raving about this newest addition to his list and stating that he was going to settle down with this one.
But that was not to be as almost a year afterwards, 2 of the best MLM Companies in the World made their debut in our Country and they had a condition that if you want to join them, it must be them only and no other.
Maluu's eyes were almost popping out of their sockets as he described their Compensation Plans with me, he said he was at a loss which of them to join.
Eventually he decided to join one first, taste and see how they operate and then hoping to hop over to the next in the next year to also have a taste of their operations.
All this while, I had stayed put in the first MLM Company he introduced me to and in 5 years I had rank advanced, won awards, won badges, traveled round on the Company's bill and had some exciting moments with them.
In 5 years, my friend Maluu was till testing the waters as he was jumping from one MLM Company to another in search of the best compensation plan and the best customer care service.
So, what then is "Opportunity - hopping"?
Who is an
"opportunity - hopper"?
Your answer is as good as mine
How do you judge my friend?
What words of advice do you have for him?
Great to see you here
#wealthisearned
Opportunity hopper is one who makes hasty decision on any new business prospect without consolidating or being patient with the one he is managing..
ReplyDelete2. Your friend is very impatient and rather excited too easily at any new business opportunity
3. Advise... He should not be entering new business without consolidating the one he is doing..a rolling Stone gathers no miss.
4.you should critically appraise new business ideas and not be too conservative
Good to read from you Dr. Azudialu

1. Maluu the opportunity hopper
ReplyDelete2. Maluu the opportunity hopper thought that tasting all the different wines will bring him to a recognition of a perfect wine. Little did he know that he was adding some ailments to himself as a result of so many wines rather than sticking to one.
I used the above paradox to explain how Maluu's action of not pitching to one thing or place couldn't lead to his success. Also, he wasn't thinking of a long term achievement but a short term goal or success. That in itself is not a characteristic of someone who is going to be a success.
3. Opportunity hopping is the movement from one opportunity to another without settling to grasp the full concept, vision and goal of any before moving to another.
b. An opportunity hopper is one who chases opportunities without really having a decision to settle and make is of any. He just misuses them.
4a. I think he wasn't wise enough. His "wisdom" was really misleading and deceptive to him.
4b. I think he needs to think and ask himself some fundamental questions of what goals he has and if they can be achievable in any opportunity
He also needs to learn to make good use of any opportunity, trust it and give it time before moving until another
5a. I think you were wise.
b. I think you rather have taught me by showing the words of advice but your actions. So I need no advice you rather to learn from you.
Thank you.
Great work Paschal

1. The inconsistency that comes with Opportunity Hopping...
ReplyDelete2. Maluu sees the potentialities in a new MLM company established in the country as usual sells the idea to a friend who combines this opportunity with his medical practice as at the time, Maluu keeps ascending in the business as he practices on a full time base. After a while the friend takes some weeks off work to organize seminars and trainings whilst Maluu keeps hopping like the "bounce game" on torchlight Nokia phones from one MLM company to another all these stems up from the fact that he has no roots and lacks consistency thinking the next company will give what the current one has failed to do... (Which he only realizes at the emergence of a new company).
3a. Looking or pitching your tent with a new team all because you feel the old one didn't meet all your expectations... Which only your discipline and consistency can bring you.
3b. A person who lacks knowledge, discipline and the relevant skills and attributes required to own, run and sustain a business thus thinks that others should do what only him should do for himself... A opportunity hopper sees green in another man's farm not knowing that if he cultivates, prunes his own land, waiting for sun and rain diligently, he'll also see green in his own land.
4a. I Pity him because all the unchanneled energy to one course and following it till success, in the long run can become emotionally draining...
4b. Pick one MLM and concentrate. . good thing he even believes that a good MLM company can be his ticket to achieving all his dreams.... So just focus on one or maybe two become an Icon a legend... That will pay off better..
5a. I think you've got it figured out.
5b. Share your dividends with me because I'm rooting for you ( just kidding)..
Keep expanding the sky has enough space to accommodate all the birds flying at once...
So don't give up!
A good job Prosper
Deletequite apt
well done and keep it up
An opportunity hopper is someone who jumps from one opportunity to the other without willing to sacrifice to build up the opportunity before him.An opportunity hopper is only concerned about the present gain and not the brighter future.
ReplyDeleteI will look at your friend as someone who is not focused but only moved by what he thinks he can gain quickly.
I will advice him to change his attitude because he cannot go far in life with such attitude.
I see you as someone who knows what he is doing, who considers the future outcome of any opportunity bthat comes his way than just the temporary pleasure.
I will advice that you keep up with this attitude. It is an attitude that must be present in all the successful men in different fields that have ever been known all over the world.
